Boreholes completed for heat pump installation at Surrey school

Managing contractor ReEnergise has finished drilling 132 boreholes for the installation of four Viessmann heat pumps at St George’s College Weybridge in the UK, part of its Zero-Carbon Schools initiative.
The boreholes were made in school fields that will be returned to use for sports and outdoor activities. Four 230 kW Viessmann ground source heat pumps will replace the school’s existing gas-fired heating system.
Once functioning, the new heating system could save around 250 tonnes of carbon dioxide per year.
Heating buildings accounts for around 37% of the UK’s total carbon emissions. Heat pumps will play a vital role in achieving the government’s net zero emissions target by 2050, although improving the thermal efficiency of buildings will also be necessary.
