New Energy World™
New Energy World™ embraces the whole energy industry as it connects and converges to address the decarbonisation challenge. It covers progress being made across the industry, from the dynamics under way to reduce emissions in oil and gas, through improvements to the efficiency of energy conversion and use, to cutting-edge initiatives in renewable and low-carbon technologies.
Global chemicals company INEOS has signed a long-term power purchase agreement for offshore wind power in Belgium with energy producer Eneco.
Under the 10-year deal which begins this year, the company will purchase 250 GWh per year of offshore wind power from Eneco, produced at the SeaMade offshore wind park in the Belgian North Sea.
Electricity from the agreement will be used to support INEOS’ Olefins and Polymers, INOVYN and Styrolution businesses in Belgium.
The deal, to take around 13% of the total SeaMade output, is estimated to reduce INEOS’s carbon footprint by 940,000 tonnes of CO2 over the length of the contract. This is the third renewable power deal agreed by INEOS as part of its roadmap to reduce greenhouse gas emissions across its Belgian operations.
