There was one clear message at the recent All-Energy and Dcarbonise 2022 exhibition and conference in Glasgow – the urgent need to accelerate the pace towards net zero. Brian Davis reports on some of the latest offshore wind, hydrogen and policy initiatives showcased at the event.

Echoes of COP26 still resonated around the vibrant conference presentations and halls of All-Energy and Dcarbonise in Glasgow earlier this month.

However, there was concern by First Minister of Scotland Nicola Sturgeon that despite considerable efforts to get most countries to sign up to the 1.5°C target, ‘the Glasgow Climate Pact didn’t deliver everything we wanted’. What’s more, she said: ‘In the last six months, the world has changed more than any of us could have expected [due to the Ukraine war]… with higher energy prices than anybody expected and the cost-of-living crisis.’

Sturgeon recognised the need to move with ‘speed and pace’ to ensure grid capacity and called for real action from the UK Prime Minister and the Chancellor ‘as we face a tsunami on fuel poverty’.
