Tata Power Solar Systems Limited (TPSSL) has successfully commissioned India’s largest solar and battery energy storage systems (BESS) project, comprising a 100 MW solar park and a 120 MWh utility-scale BESS in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh.
TPSSL was awarded this INR9,450 ($114mn) project on an engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) basis from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) in December 2021.
The company reported that despite various challenges, such as unsuitable soil conditions and its remote location, the project was completed in the stipulated time frame. The team deployed 239,685 bifacial monocrystalline modules.
Deepesh Nanda, CEO and Managing Director, Tata Power Renewable Energy, says: ‘The successful commissioning of the largest solar and battery storage project for SECI... will ensure round-the-clock green energy and accelerate the renewable energy transition through innovative solutions.’
The project is expected to generate an estimated 243.53mn units of energy annually and reduce carbon by 4.87mn tonnes in 25 years.
