New Energy World™
New Energy World™ embraces the whole energy industry as it connects and converges to address the decarbonisation challenge. It covers progress being made across the industry, from the dynamics under way to reduce emissions in oil and gas, through improvements to the efficiency of energy conversion and use, to cutting-edge initiatives in renewable and low-carbon technologies.
SOCAR, the state oil company of Azerbaijan, and UAE renewables developer Masdar have broken ground on three solar and wind projects in Azerbaijan, with a total capacity of 1 GW.
Projects include the 445 MW Bilasuvar solar project, the 315 MW Neftchala solar farm and the 240 MW Absheron-Garadagh onshore wind farm.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony for the three projects, Azerbaijan's Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said the projects were a signal of the country's ‘solidarity and commitment to energy transition’ ahead of hosting the COP29 Climate Change Conference in November this year.
Masdar and SOCAR have also signed a shareholder agreement for the projects.
They follow Masdar’s completion of the 230 MW Garadagh solar plant in October 2023, Azerbaijan’s first foreign investment-based independent solar power project and the largest solar plant in the region.
