UK secures 8.4 GW of offshore wind at strike prices as low as £89.49/MWh in Europe’s biggest auction to date

The UK has secured a record 8.4 GW of offshore wind capacity under the government’s latest Contracts for Difference (CfD) Allocation Round 7 (AR7), marking the largest single offshore wind procurement of its kind in Europe to date.

EC funding totalling nearly €17bn will support European energy transition projects

New wind power milestones reached in UK, France and Egypt

Scotland’s first commercial wind farm to be repowered

After almost 30 years of service, Scotland’s first commercial onshore wind farm has been powered down in preparation of the site being ‘supercharged’ to help meet the UK’s net zero targets. Meanwhile, the green light has been given for the Hornsea 4 offshore wind project, but the Norfolk Borealis offshore wind development is to be shelved.

Ireland’s first licensing round awards 3 GW of offshore wind

Ireland recently announced the provisional results of the country’s first offshore wind auction under the Renewable Electricity Support Scheme (ORESS 1). The round surpassed market expectations both in terms of the total volume of renewable energy procured and the low price at which it was secured. Meanwhile, the UK government has unveiled plans for improved rewards and benefits to be offered to communities backing onshore wind farms in the UK.

France commissions first wind farm offshore Brittany

The newly commissioned Saint-Brieuc wind farm is the second fully operational wind farm offshore France, following the inauguration of the Normandy-based Fécamp wind farm last month, and is the first to be located offshore Brittany. The project’s commissioning also comes just weeks after France announced the winners of the world’s first commercial-scale floating offshore wind auction.
