World’s largest direct air capture plant comes online

Climeworks has started operations at what is claimed to be the world’s largest direct air capture and storage (DAC+S) plant, named Mammoth, in Iceland. It is the second commercial DAC+S facility to be commissioned by the company and is about 10 times bigger than its predecessor plant, Orca (also located in Iceland).

Australia continues to back gas while on road to net zero in Future Strategy report

The Australian government has acknowledged the role of gas as a ‘transition’ fuel ‘out to 2050 and beyond’ in its new gas strategy. However, the strategy has been criticised by some environmental organisations for continuing to support a fossil fuel whose emissions contribute to climate change. New wind power milestones reached in UK, France and Egypt

The second phase of development of Dogger Bank, the world’s largest offshore wind farm, has commenced 80 miles offshore from the Yorkshire coast. Meanwhile, France has awarded what is claimed to be the world’s first long-term contract for difference (CfD) to a commercial floating offshore wind farm. Hydrogen supply chains gather pace from Scotland to Abu Dhabi, but UK demo shelved

A number of new developments have been announced that support the development of the hydrogen supply chain in Europe and the Middle East. Among latest projects, RWE plans to develop a green hydrogen project in Scotland; a new cooperation agreement will see the Port of Rotterdam establish itself as an international hydrogen hub for north-west Europe; and Cepsa’s latest award of contracts underpin its Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley project in Spain. Also, new developments support Abu Dhabi-based ADNOC’s goal of capturing 5% of the global low-carbon hydrogen market by 2030.
