Brazil enacts offshore wind law, but excludes fossil fuel provisions

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva has signed into law new regulations governing the allocation and permitting of wind projects offshore Brazil. Meanwhile, the country added a record level of power generation capacity to its grid in 2024, with renewables accounting for more than 90%, according to the National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL).

Vietnam is to enact an updated Electricity Law on 1 February 2025 that will modernise the country’s energy policy framework, foster renewable energy growth and enhance market competitiveness. Invenergy has announced that its 150 MW Hardin II Solar Energy Center, in Ohio, US, has begun commercial operations; whilst the state’s biggest solar project to date, the 577 MW Fox Squirrel Solar project, is also now fully operational.
