All that emits is not CO₂: tracking methane emissions by satellite

Tracking and reducing methane emissions has long been stymied by outdated estimation methods and unreliable data, leading to widespread underreporting. The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that global methane emissions from the energy sector are around 70% higher than what national governments officially report. This striking discrepancy underscores the pressing need for more accurate and effective monitoring systems, reports Sara Siddeeq.

New Indonesian President signs off $7bn gas project while reaffirming 2050 net zero target

BP and its partners have announced a final investment decision (FID) for the Tangguh UCC gas project in Indonesia, which will feature the country’s first at-scale enhanced gas recovery through carbon capture, use and storage (CCUS). Meanwhile, Indonesia’s President Prabowo Subianto has announced ambitious plans to phase out domestic fossil fuel power generation by 2040 and achieve net zero emissions by 2050.
