Researchers from The University of Manchester investigating waste management practices for off-grid solar technologies in Malawi say they have discovered life-threatening quantities of lead pollution caused by improperly-managed battery waste.

These are discussed in the latest edition of EI Model Code of Safe Practice Part 19: Fire precautions at petroleum refineries and bulk storage installations (EI 19), authored by Paul Watkins and Dr Niall Ramsden, ENRg Consultants, and due to be published in December 2022.*

Safety performance improves alongside surge in offshore wind activity

G+ members – comprising most of the biggest offshore wind operators in the world – have reported a record 44.6mn hours were worked in 2022, an increase of 38% on the previous year, with safety metrics continuing on a downward trajectory.
