Waste water heat recovery
The UK's first waste water heat recovery scheme has been installed at Borders College in Galashiels, Scotland, using pre-insulated pipework from FlexEnergy.
Looking to reduce its carbon emissions, the college chose a renewable heating system from SHARC Energy Systems, including a sewer interface to Scottish Water's nearby sewer pipe. The system also required 500 m of polybutylene heat network piping from a newly-built energy centre to service five individual plant rooms across the site. The energy centre houses the SHARC filtration skid, heat pumps and control panel.
The college is now on target to have a total carbon reduction of 35%.
