Oil transport information (crude oil assay data)

This website is operated on behalf of the Energy Institute HMC-4 Oil Transportation Measurement Committees to provide access to Committee news and documents and to crude oil measurement and property data.

Data is submitted by committee members and others for posting on this site. The Energy Institute and the Committee members accept no responsibility for the accuracy of the data, its use or misuse.

Measurements
Using measurements from individual voyages provided by HMC-4A Committee members, measurement differences (Bill of Lading vs Outturn) are calculated each year for the majority of traded crude oil grades. Volumes and measurement differences for all grades with 20 or more voyages reported for 2016 can be viewed through the measurement link, together with similar data from 2015 for comparison.

Crude oil measurement and property data. Includes crude oil assay data.

Temperatures
Load and discharge temperatures are also submitted by panel members and these are presented for information through the following link

Assay Data and Carriage Recommendations
Selected assay data is provided by HMC-4 members and others in order to assist the industry generally to use best practice with regard to carriage temperatures and crude oil washing. The aim is to avoid excessive heating and/or washing, both of which can lead to excess vapour loss.

EI HM40 Publication
The information provided should be read in conjunction with the Energy Institute Hydrocarbon Management publication HM 40 ‘Guidelines for the Crude Oil Washing of Ships’ Tanks and the Heating of Crude Oil terminology used below and is available for download in .pdf format from the Energy Institute
