Notebooks kept by Mr Arthur W Eastlake in the 1890's (Two indexed-notebooks)

“These two indexed-notebooks were kept by Mr Arthur W Eastlake in the 1890’s and record many interesting items relating to petroleum industry operations and events of that period.

Mr Eastlake was then field manager of the oilfields operated by Elliots and Parkinson Ltd (an English company) at Ropienka and Ustyanowa, Galicia, in Austria.  Galicia is now (1980) a part of Poland.  A number of oil-producing areas were located in the province, including such fields as Boryslaw, Drohobyez, Schodnica, and so on.

Most of the manuscript is in Mr Eastlake’s very clear own handwriting.

Mr Eastlake subsequently joined Boverton Redwood as one of his travelling staff carrying out inspections of prospective petroleum-producing areas and other installations on behalf of various organisations desirous of acquiring them.  In 1910 he entered into a partnership with (then) Sir Boverton Redwood as Consulting Petroleum Technologists and in 1913 they were instrumental in bringing about the formation of The Institution of Petroleum Technologists (now the Institute of Petroleum).
