Petroleum Review November 2017
Since the COP21 Agreement on climate change, transport decarbonisation is becoming an imperative. The big question is how fast energy transformation will occur. In this month’s issue we look at the timeline for the electrification of cars and expected impact on the oil sector.
An NGVA study suggests that gas is a prime contender for commercial transport. We also examine the potential for hydrogen fuel cell electric vehicle transport in the move towards zero emissions, although it is still early days.
BP’s Chief Executive, Alternative Energy, gives a fascinating insight into the company’s strategy for renewable energy, prior to his presentation at IP Week 2018, which will be held on 20–22 February.
Further afield, significant renewables initiatives are underway in the Asia-Pacific region, including rapid expansion of China’s biofuels industry. India has also embarked on ambitious new gas projects, and electricity reform is underway in Vietnam.
Health and safety is always a priority, and this month we report the latest management strategy, policy and technical resources to reduce risk in the energy sector.
We also look at how satellite imagery can help manage risk. Plenty of food for thought.
Meanwhile, our digital feature explains how electric vehicle demand management could reduce the impact of this developing market on the UK electricity grid.
