Record-breaking new biogas complex for Germany
Some 15 years ago, biogas firm BENAS GmbH invested in five INNIO Jenbacher J320 gas engines with a total capacity of 5.24 MW for a plant in Ottersberg near Bremen, Germany.
Now the company has enlarged the combined heat and power (CHP) plant with the addition of two Jenbacher J620 gas engines with a capacity of 3.05 MW each. The extension has created the country’s single largest biogas engine complex.
The new Ottersberg plant is operated solely using renewable raw materials including dried poultry manure. The investments in the new plant mean that Ottersberg can now generate 28 GWh of electricity annually. The plant supplies both electricity into the grid and heat to its fibre processing plant.
