Hybrid electricity plant for remote Philippines island
Siemens Gamesa will supply a hybrid energy project on an island in the Philippines, to provide a stable electricity supply in a location with a weak link to the grid, reducing its dependence on diesel.
The project, located in in Puerto Galera, will combine a 16 MW wind farm and a 6 MW battery storage solution with an in-house central control system. This will allow for fine tuning to optimise the turbines’ performance based on wind forecasts and other factors.
The 16 MW wind farm has already been installed and the battery storage system will be set up and commissioned later this year. An additional 10 MW of wind power is also being negotiated. Operations are set to begin in in the second half of 2020.
