First jacket foundations for Moray East arrive in Scotland
The first eight jacket foundations for the Moray East offshore wind project have arrived in the Port of Nigg in Scotland, delivered by Offshore Heavy Transport’s (OHT’s) heavy transportation vessel Osprey from the UAE.
The transit took 39 days from Hamriyah, UAE, via the Cape of Good Hope on their 12,000 nautical mile journey to the Cromarty Firth.
All 48 of the three-legged jackets fabricated in the UAE, averaging more than 1,000 tonnes and up to 80 m tall, will be transported over the coming months to the Scottish port utilising three of OHT’s largest heavy transportation vessels.
The jackets will form foundations for the proposed 950 MW Moray East offshore windfarm, to be located 22 km from the Scottish shore. Construction on the project started in winter 2018 and the wind farm is expected to be fully operational in 2022. Transportation of all jackets is expected to be completed by this October.
