Gas generators to support Australia’s largest hybrid microgrid
Cummins Inc has installed nine of its QSV91G lean-burn gas generators to provide continuous, reliable power at temperatures of up to 45°C to a hybrid renewable energy microgrid at the Agnew Gold Mine in Western Australia.
The Agnew hybrid renewable microgrid system – Australia’s largest – consists of a new off-grid 23 MW power station incorporating gas, photovoltaic solar and diesel power generation, as well as 18 MW of wind generation, a 13 MW battery and an advanced microgrid control system.
During 12 months of operation, the 56 MW installed capacity at Agnew will abate 46,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. All the energy produced at the site is used in gold mining operations.
