China’s first hybrid-electric rescue vessel

China’s first Chinese designed and built hybrid emergency rescue vessel, Shenhai 01, has been delivered to Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) by Huangpu Wenchong Shipbuilding.

The 78-metre long vessel will be deployed to provide emergency response at sea and carry out rescue operations. The vessel can be fully powered by batteries for up to three hours of operations. It features a range of ABB’s electric, digital and connected solutions to support sustainable operations and enhance safety and efficiency, including the company’s bridge-to-propeller technologies and Azipod^® electric propulsion, energy storage system and state-of-the-art automation and control solutions.
