Total becomes leading distributor of E85 in France
Total has stepped up the deployment of E85 superethanol across its French service station network to become the largest distributor of E85 in the country.
The company had already doubled its distribution capacity at the end of 2019, from 270 service stations to more than 500. It now has in excess of 750 service stations offering E85 and more are to follow in 2021.
Total's E85 Superethanol is claimed to offer a number of advantages compared to conventional fuels. As a renewable fuel, it incorporates 60–85% bioethanol made from sugar beet, wheat or corn, and reduces CO2 emissions by more than 40% over the entire product life cycle. It benefits from an attractive price per litre thanks to favourable taxation, and allows gasoline vehicles to save more than 40% on their fuel budget.
