Norway’s Veslefrikk field to shut down in 2022

After more than 30 years onstream and over 400mn boe of production, the Veslefrikk field is to be shut down in spring 2022. The plugging of 24 wells has already started.

Located in Norwegian North Sea block 30/3, Veslefrikk came onstream in 1989 as the first development off Norway to use a floating production unit. The Veslefrikk B semi-submersible production platform is tied to the Veslefrikk A fixed steel wellhead platform. The field partners are Petoro (37%), Repsol (27%), Equinor (18%) and Wintershall Dea (18%).

Veslefrikk B will be towed to shore for dismantling in the autumn of 2022 and Veslefrikk A is scheduled to be removed in 2025/2026.
