Clean hydrogen project to support decarbonisation in Norway

Inovyn, a subsidiary of Ineos, is to build a new clean hydrogen supply hub at its chemical manufacturing site in Rafnes, Norway (pictured), that will contribute towards the decarbonisation of the company’s operations and the wider transport sector in the country.

Inovyn plans to build a 20 MW electrolyser to produce clean hydrogen through the electrolysis of water, powered by zero carbon electricity. The company claims the project will lead to a minimum reduction of an estimated 22,000 t/y of CO
2 by reducing the carbon footprint of Ineos’ operations in Norway and serving as a hub to provide hydrogen to the Norwegian transport sector.

The proposed development also ties into ongoing discussions with companies to establish a network of refuelling stations in Norway to provide buses, trucks and taxis with clean hydrogen. Inovyn is aiming to produce enough additional hydrogen to fuel up to 400 buses or 1,600 taxis every day.
