In the heavy trucking world, decarbonisation may be achieved in any of the following ways:
- battery: issue of costs and availability of critical metals
- Fuel cells: issue of lower energy efficiency and lengthy start-up times
- Electric roads, coupled with a combustion engine on heavily used transport corridors, or with lower capacity batteries via trunk roads. These could involve catenary cables, conductive or inductive road systems.
