Offshore renewables first for Shell in Malaysia

Shell has taken a final investment decision (FID) on the Timi gas project offshore Malaysia, which will feature the company’s first wellhead platform in the country to be powered by a solar and wind hybrid renewable power system. The unmanned platform will be approximately 60% lighter than a conventional tender assisted drilling (TAD) wellhead platform.

Timi is expected to produce up to 50,000 boe/d at peak, with gas transported to the F23 production hub via an 80 km pipeline.

Shell holds a 75% stake in the project, acting as operator, partnered by Petronas (15%) and Brunei Energy Exploration (10%).
