Slovakian blue hydrogen production plans

EP Infrastructure, Eustream, NAFTA and RWE have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly explore the potential development of blue hydrogen production facilities in eastern Slovakia.

It is thought that RWE will off-take and import the produced hydrogen to Germany and other markets in Western Europe, with the hydrogen then transmitted through a repurposed Eustream gas pipeline to Germany. The CO2 captured during hydrogen generation could be stored within depleted gas fields in Slovakia or neighbouring countries.
