European gas prices fall as Russia increases supplies

Gas prices across Europe have dropped after Russia’s state-run energy company Gazprom started pumping extra supplies to EU stores.

The move has increased hopes that predicted further rises by suppliers in the UK can be avoided.

Gas prices surged this year on the back of strong demand in Asia, driven by the economic recovery following the pandemic lockdowns, together with depleted EU stocks.
