TotalEnergies begins afforestation project
TotalEnergies has unveiled a large-scale afforestation project in the Republic of Congo.
The Batéké Carbon Sink operation, conducted in partnership with Forêt Ressources Management, will consist of 40,000 hectares of planted forest on the Batéké Plateaux. Some 40mn trees will be planted in total over 10 years, creating a carbon sink that will sequester an average of 500,000 t/y of CO2 over 20 years. The carbon credits will be certified in accordance with the Verified Carbon Standard (VCS).
