TotalEnergies and Daimler Truck to develop European hydrogen transport system

TotalEnergies and Daimler Truck have signed an agreement aimed at decarbonising road freight in the European Union.

The partners plan to develop ‘ecosystems’ for heavy-duty trucks running on hydrogen, focusing on hydrogen sourcing and logistics, dispensing of hydrogen in service stations, development of hydrogen-based trucks and the establishment of a customer base as well as other initiatives, in a bid to play a lead role in kickstarting the roll-out of hydrogen infrastructure for transportation.

TotalEnergies is planning to operate directly or indirectly up to 150 hydrogen refuelling stations in Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and France by 2030, while Daimler Truck is looking to supply hydrogen-powered fuel-cell trucks to its customers in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxemburg and France by 2025.

Daimler Truck and TotalEnergies are both members of the H2Accelerate consortium, which aims to support the roll-out of hydrogen-powered transport in Europe in the coming decade.
