New sub-surface hydrogen storage study, Petroleum review, September 2021, p 9
Recently, despite concerns over losses due to the clogging and corrosion of metal infrastructure following injection of hydrogen into porous soil, a new study by the University of Edinburgh and the German Clausthal University shows microbial action to be negligible, hence several depleted gas and oil fields are suited to temporary geological storage of hydrogen.
