In UK, hydrogen fuel research is blossoming at Cranfield University in the shape of production, transport, storage and end uses. In conjunction with US, blue hydrogen is being produced by the Sorbent-Enhanced Steam-Reforming (HyPER) project. Combustion emissions and contrails are under study in an adjacent facility, together with the potential of ammonia fuel and electric propulsion involving Britten- Norman. Studies are also under way into effects of hydrogen on construction metals and tank design, together with reduced combustion temperatures by means of the micromix system.
