Asia's energy future

Reginal dynamics and global implications
The Asia-Pacific Region is the fastest growing energy consumer in the world and, taking around 30% of total production, the fastest growing oil consumer. With relatively low oil reserves, some 10% of the world’s total, the area is now more dependent on oil imports than any other region and energy supply security ranks as one of its highest priorities. This demand has important implications for the rest of the world, in particular the USA, which, like Asia, has huge reserves of coal but is growing increasingly dependent on oil imports. The United States has an economy and life-style based on the ready availability of energy as, increasingly, does Asia. This volume looks at the common stake in the need for an assured energy supply and price stability as well as considering cost and environmental concerns.
