Going black or breaking the rules?

The UK potentially faces a decade or more of protracted fuel shortages, prices which are both high and volatile, and rotating electricity black outs. The economic consequences will be severe and chronic, further weakening the country's ability to respond with technical and financial remedies. To keep the lights on, the UK must probably negotatie a derogration with its EU partners regarding the Large Combustion Plant Directive and continue emitting acid emissions that it is bound by Treaty to halt.
