Managing the risks
Corrosion under insulation (CUI) has the potential to damage any offshore asset. Badly corroded pipework can render systems unfit for service for extended periods or lead to loss of containment. The detection and monitoring of CUI is one of the most common maintenance and subsequent loss of production. Monitoring and understanding CUI allows maintenance on pipework to be carried out as efficiently as possible, a task that is becoming ever more difficult as platforms become increasingly complex, as Neil Whyld, Manager of Frazer - Nash's Oil and gas business explains.
