Driving the drilling boom

The drilling rig industry is in the middle of the biggest building boom since the 1980s as contractors move to address the issues of ageing fleets and the increasing demand for deepwater E&P. The order books of the major shipyards are overflowing as the trend to move away from building semi-submersibles continues and the market is increasingly divided between standard specification and high specification drilling rigs, writes Richard Walker, Associate Advisor at Epeus.
