EDF Energy has been awarded what it claims is the UK’s largest annual electricity supply contract – by the Crown Commercial Service – following a competitive tender process. Renewal of the multi-billion pound, four-year agreement will see EDF Energy continue to supply electricity to thousands of public buildings and sites across central and local government, including schools, the NHS, the Highways Agency and major cultural assets such as the National Gallery (pictured).

The contract, which covers around 8,000 sites and involves 9.6 TWh of electricity a year, was awarded by the agency which provides commercial and procurement services for government departments and the UK public sector. As part of the deal, public sector customers will also be offered advice on energy efficiency.

The announcement follows the awarding to EDF in 2013 a ten-year contract to supply Network Rail.
