Trial of former CNPC head begins
The trial of Jiang Jiemin, the former head of CNPC, China’s top energy group, began in mid-April, with charges of bribery and other corrupt practices. Jiemin is the latest in scores of senior figures in the ruling Communist party to have been caught in President Xi Jinping’s war on corruption. Jiang was formerly Domestic Security Chief and a member of the elite Politburo Standing Committee.
