Green protestors target Polar Pioneer

A total of 13 activists in kayaks were taken into custody by the US Coast Guard while blocking Shell’s Arctic drilling rig the Polar Pioneer as it attempted to leave Seattle’s Puget Sound in mid-June. Around 50 other protesters on the water were not arrested, according to Greenpeace. The Obama administration approved in May Shell’s plan to drill for oil in the Chukchi Sea in the Alaskan Arctic.
