EU and Mexico plan to upgrade trade agreement
The European Union (EU) and the Mexican government have announced plans to upgrade their 15 years’ old trade agreement, making it more comprehensive with more regulatory harmonisation than the existing tariff-centred deal. ‘We are aiming for an EU-Mexico deal that is comparable to the one with Canada and to the one to be concluded with the US’, said EU trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström. The EU already imports large volumes of Mexican oil – importing $6.5bn worth in 2013 and $6.4bn in 2012.
