Europe invests in lignite despite climate change concerns

Sometimes referred to as brown coal, lignite is a sedimentary rock formed from naturallycompressed peat. It is considered the lowest rank of coal due to its relatively high carbon content. Yet it continues to be burnt to generate electricity in parts of Europe, report Robert Stokes, Michael Kosmides, and Andrew Kureth.
