UK ABWR Regulatory Issue and Resolution Plan issued

ONR has issued a Regulatory Issue (R) to Hitachi-GE following our concerns in the Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) topic area for the UK Advanced Boiling Water Reactor (ABWR) Generic Design Assessment.  The objective of the RI is to state ONR’s expectations with respect to Hitachi-GE developing and delivering a suitable and sufficient PSA for the UK ABWR fault analysis.  The concerns identified by ONR in the RI will need to be addressed to our satisfaction before we would consider whether a Design Acceptance Confirmation could be granted. Hitachi-GE has presented the regulators with a Resolution Plan which provides its response and plan to meet ONR’s expectations. This Resolution Plan has been judged as credible, and if submissions made by Hitachi-GE meet regulatory expectations, the RI should be adequately resolved within their declared GDA timescales.
