New Energy Institute data highlights year of global records

The Energy Institute has today published the Statistical Review of World Energy, providing the first complete set of data on energy production, consumption and emissions for all energy types around the world for the calendar year 2023. The Review is available as a free downloadable report and dataset.

Indonesia misses coal mine methane emissions mitigation in decarbonisation plans

Indonesian coal mining companies are significantly overlooking coal mine methane (CMM) emissions and not including their mitigation in decarbonisation plans, according to a new report from think tank Ember. Meanwhile, the International Energy Agency (IEA) forecasts that global coal demand is set to remain broadly flat through 2025.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) and the European Commission (EC) have outlined a range of simple steps that people can take to reduce their energy use and save money. They claim the measures could save enough oil to fill 120 supertankers and enough natural gas to heat almost 20mn homes if adopted by all European Union (EU) citizens.
