New innovations are driving change in hydrogen fuel cell technologies

Recent hydrogen fuel cell advancements from Hyundai, Toyota, Ricardo and Bramble Energy continue to develop hydrogen technologies for various clean power applications. Hyundai’s latest fuel cell electric vehicle boasts enhanced power and efficiency, while Toyota’s third-generation fuel cell system goes beyond passenger cars and extends to commercial applications. Ricardo reports its multi-stack module has achieved 393 kW for maritime use and Bramble Energy’s new UK-Taiwan initiative aims to cut green hydrogen production costs.

ExxonMobil to supply ammonia for injection in Japanese coal-fired power plant

ExxonMobil is to supply low-carbon ammonia to Marubeni for Japan’s Kobe power plant under a new offtake deal. Marubeni will also invest in ExxonMobil’s planned Baytown hydrogen and ammonia hub. The move supports Japan’s wider hydrogen strategy, as outlined in a new report, which highlights the country’s push to cut carbon emissions and decarbonise power and hard-to-abate sectors through ammonia and low-carbon hydrogen imports.

No new oil and gas licences, but more wind and hydrogen: UK government unveils new North Sea vision

The UK government is consulting on plans to make the North Sea ‘a world-leader in offshore industries, such as hydrogen, carbon capture and wind’. It is also looking to provide the oil and gas sector with ‘long-term certainty on the fiscal landscape’ by ending the Energy Profits Levy and developing a new regime to boost investment in jobs and growth.

Hydrogen supply chains gather pace from Scotland to Abu Dhabi, but UK demo shelved

A number of new developments have been announced that support the development of the hydrogen supply chain in Europe and the Middle East. Among latest projects, RWE plans to develop a green hydrogen project in Scotland; a new cooperation agreement will see the Port of Rotterdam establish itself as an international hydrogen hub for north-west Europe; and Cepsa’s latest award of contracts underpin its Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley project in Spain. Also, new developments support Abu Dhabi-based ADNOC’s goal of capturing 5% of the global low-carbon hydrogen market by 2030.
